Father's Teachings

What is one's goal in life? It's always to excel, to be better than others in terms of money, status etc. etc. So, everyone thrives to be so and the rat race starts. Once in the race, one has no other option but to be a part and try to win. But, here comes the different factors that play a vital role. The ethical values learned during the upbringing comes into the forefront. A person will a solid value base will always take part in the most honest and transparent manner. He/ she will not try to strive for personal gains at the cost of others. on the other hand majority of the people tend to compromise with their values and trade them for short term gains. They reap the benefits and go up the ladder, until some day the power of the universe conspires and stall them. At that point, they are left alone, all their bosom friends vanish,  and try to retrospect. But, it's too late and their health takes a toll and so on. Analysing few such persons in different aspects of life, I have realized that these people were very smart, their thinking were of different level; they saw things what others missed, were calculative, informative and were always at an edge over their peers. In their endeavour to outsmart others and to be better, they tend to use their positive traits in an unethical manner for short terms gains. Continued usage makes it a habit and finally the habit becomes nature. In this journey of success, they hurt others and feel happy and content with the aura of success. The universe silently observes and it's wonderful forces comes into play at the right moment and the inevitable happens. The behaviour of persons in such manner is a mystery and is not difficult but also impossible to explain. on the other hand if all such people had channelised their energy and efforts in an ethical manner, the results would have been wonderful and the planet earth would have been a more better place to live in. There would be no place for any ills of the society like poverty, hunger, inequality, crime etc. and so on.
In this context, I remember the various Golden Words spoken to me by my father during my childhood, which has played a remarkable role in my life. Losing his father at a very young age, with lots of struggle and hardship, he was able to be someone; not only a senior Government Official but also a good human being who was respected by his colleagues and the stakeholders. Even now, after his retirement he is adored  by the masses. One day, when he saw some of my friends smoking and had to hide when they saw him, he was really hurt. He took me by his side and when we were watering our plants, he told me about the situation and said 'Son, please do not do such things in public which you cannot do in front of your parents.'

I have been religiously following his advice and has been able to withstand many such temptations is life due to these golden words spoken by him. I feel that, if we understand the inherent meaning of such wonderful advices given to us by our parents, seniors and well-wishers we can be the change. The universe is always there to conspire for us. I have, will you?

Thank you my dear father, be blessed and bless us all.
